Christopher Todd was in New Haven in 1644 and took the oath of fidelity there. In 1681 he was the miller. His will, dated 1656, notes his mill, bakehouse and lands; and the estate inventoried at at £985. His name appears frequently in the division of land but he did not have much to do with public affairs.
There should be much additional information in The Todd Family in America or the Descendants of Christopher Todd 1637–1919, compiled by John Edwards Todd, D. D. and edited by George Iru Todd.
His will notes his mill, bakehouse, and lands. The inventory amounted to L985. | Todd, Christopher (I5391)

I am looking for the death date and burial place of Martha E. (Dickerson) Wells. She was born in July 1855 to Jno. W. and Harriet N. Dickerson (sometimes listed as Dickenson) in Pittsylvania Co. She married John James Wells on 19 Apr 1883. He was born 11 July 1855, died 29 May 1941 and is thought to be buried in the Matthew Clay Wells cemetery. Martha died between 1910 (on census) and 1920 (John James listed as widower living with daughter's family). I have most other dates on this family and am just looking for these two bits of information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. | Dickerson, Martha E. (I7991)

Clifton was one of the jokers of the family. He, too, went away to school when I was quite young. He took his high school work, a year behind Bruce, at Fork Union Military Academy. It was here that he was first called "C.J." and Bruce was called "B.D."-a way to distinguish the two Reynolds boys. Clifton went to the University of Virginia where he studied medicine and specialized in Urology. He married Jane Via, a petite lady from Charlottesville, and they made their home in Bluefield where Clifton was affiliated with the Bluefield Sanitarium. He was head of the Urology Department for a good many years. While there he helped found a hospital in Richlands, WV and worked there certain days of the week. When I finished high school at Renan Clifton and Jane, along with every other brother and sister of mine, came home for the occasion. (That was the last time all of us were together.) Daddy had died in January and Mother couldn't see her way financially to send me to Westhampton to school. Jane asked me how I would like to live with them and attend Bluefield College. I lived two winters with Clifton and Jane, and they were happy years.

Commentary:
The General Assembly passed an act in May 1782 for providing more effectual funds for the redemption of certificates granted the officers and soldiers raised by the state. This act outlined the process for redeeming military certificates through the commissioner of war. Shortly thereafter, the act creating the office of the commissioner of war was repealed and his responsibilites transferred to the executive. As a result, upon examination and approval of documentation of Revolutionary War military service, the governor issued a certificate on which the Land Office register then issued a warrant for bounty lands.
Volume contains a list of soldiers who were issued military certificates between 1777 and 1787 for their service during the Revolutionary War. The soldiers and officers are listed in order by the military certificate number. Entries include certificate number, name & rank, date, continental & state service (contains a monetary amount in pounds, shillings, and pence), loans, funded paper money, and interest.
