      • Commentary:
The General Assembly passed an act in May 1782 for providing more effectual funds for the redemption of certificates granted the officers and soldiers raised by the state. This act outlined the process for redeeming military certificates through the commissioner of war. Shortly thereafter, the act creating the office of the commissioner of war was repealed and his responsibilites transferred to the executive. As a result, upon examination and approval of documentation of Revolutionary War military service, the governor issued a certificate on which the Land Office register then issued a warrant for bounty lands.

Volume contains a list of soldiers who were issued military certificates between 1777 and 1787 for their service during the Revolutionary War. The soldiers and officers are listed in order by the military certificate number. Entries include certificate number, name & rank, date, continental & state service (contains a monetary amount in pounds, shillings, and pence), loans, funded paper money, and interest.
