History of Wood County 1924 Page 668 & 669
Charles H Dawes, a pioneer of Wood County , Wisconsin, retired after a useful career. Charles was 13 years olds when he accompanied his parests from New York State to Waterloo, Wisconsin. After finishing school there he worked in a flour mill until the family moved to Wood County in 1876. Here he helped to clear the land and endured all the hardships of pioneer life. In course of time he bought 65 acres of wild land, which he has since cleared and which is now operated by his son Ernest. Mr. Dawes is now living practically retired on the 65 acres above mentioned, which he himself farmed successfully for many years. The place is well stocked with Holstein cattle and is a finely developed farm. From time to time Mr. Dawes has taken an active part in public affairs. For nine years he was clerk of his school district, and he was one of the U. S. Census enumerators for the census of 1900, at which time the town of Wood consisted of the present towns of Wood, Dexter, Hiles and Cary, which made a large stretch of country for him to cover. Many places had to be reached on foot through dense forest, while to-day automobiles drive past the doors of the same places. | Dawes, Charles Henry (I1749)

Proposed Change: Family: Wilson/Hughes (F0901)
Tree: Devin Timber
Link: http://devintimber.org/devtim/familygroup.php?familyID=F0901&tree=dt001
Description: Hi,
Thanks so much for the massive amount of data you have placed on this site. Wow!
I have researched this family for some time and my late husband, Robert Earl Wilson, was a descendant of Frank and Jessie Hughes Wilson.
The date you have for Jessie's death is incorrect and it was an innocent mistake made by the researcher because the grave marker was incorrect until I had it corrected in early 2004. The source for my correction was found in a news item from the following newspaper: Bolivar Herald, 26 Jan 1899 with the heading Bolivar General Items, the article reads as follows: Mrs. Frank Wilson of Aldrich, died last Monday. She was buried at Bolivar Tuesday.
This also is verified by the Interment records of Greenwood Cemetery, Bolivar MO.
Thanks for the opportunity to suggest a correction.
Doris Wilson

[Excerpts submitted by Michael J. on 12.Feb.2002.]
Mentions Bethlehem Church and Logan, Hightower, and Devin. [Note: Jeffers refers to Devin as Devine, also, which is confusing because there are (other?) Devines in Allen County. But, in terms of land, he references Alexander Devin’s [Devine] “200 acres on Sulphur of Drakes Creek, 8 August 1799.] Because these three plots of land—Logan’s, Hightower’s, and Devin’s—fell outside the area Mr. Jeffers was researching, he talks a great deal about the three, but doesn’t plot where their land was located.
