James had started his third term as Mayor of Harrisburg, Oregon, at the time of his death. He had served several years on the school board and council before becoming Mayor. He had operated a hardware store and at the time of his death was Vice-President of the Harrisburg Bank and Chairman of the Board of the Lebanon Bank and a member of the Board of the Citizens Bank of Albany, Oregon. Ralph Hitchcock, brother, received first training on the ship San Diego and
remained on the San Diego until its sinking on July 19, 1918. He was a
farmer in Fort Shaw Montana.

Her death was due to causes related to age.
She moved to Oregon as a child and graduated from Salem High School.
She lived in Portland since 1939. Her husband, Byrd, died in 1983.
She was membeer of Mt. Scott Church of God.
Surviving are sons, B. Weston of Lincoln City and Donald P. of Portland;
sisters, Ella Starr of Salem and Annabelle Gilbert of Harrisburg; five
grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

CHOTEAU MT: Clarence Isaac "Ike" Hitchcock, 72, of Bynum, died Tuesday,
July 25, 1995, at a Great Falls hospital after a lengthy illness.
His funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints here, with burial in the Choteau Cemetery. Gorder Funeral Home is
handling arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung
Association or Teton County Home Health.
Hitchcock was born April 24, 1923, in Hoosac MT. His family moved from eastern Montana to homestead on the Fairfield Bench in 1932. He graduated from Simmons High School and served in the Army during World War II.
He was a truck driver and set-up man for a local farm implement store. In 1952 he married Maxine Foster in Helena, they later divorced. He moved to Bynum area in 1964. In 1965, he married Mary Margaret McCarthy in Bynum; she died in 1987.
Hitchcock was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and reading Montana history books.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen Lansing of Olympia, Wash; a son Mark Hitchcock of Dupuyer; two stepdaughters, Cathy McKinley of Missoula and Billie White of Spokane; a stepson, Del Shelmerdine of Fairview MT, his mother Sylvia Hitchcock Willoughby of Choteau; A sister, Billie Higgins of Seattle; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A daughter, Renee, has died.

Joseph Alpha Carter, Sr. was a salesman and then a manager of Cobb & Crew, Co. Inc. He lived with his family at 672 Jefferson Avenue Danville, Va. from about 1918-1919 until his death in 1930, after which his family there resided until 1965-1966 when his widow, Mattie Edwards was incapacitated.

Joseph Welch Reynolds was named for his mother's brother, Joseph Carter, Jr. who died the year he was born; and the Welch name came from Mr. Welch Clark who was the protector of Samuel Lovelace Reynolds after the death of his mother Mary Lou (Molly) Reynolds when Sam was 15 years old. Mr. Welch Clark lived in a historic house on Main Street, Danville, VA and was a well know bachelor who traveled widely and is remembered by even distant family members and community members as having brought back from a trip to Florida, an alligator for a pet. Joseph Welch Reynolds, brother of Mary Frances Reynolds Eggleston contracted polio when he was 13 years old. Unlike many victims, he recovered almost completely and was left with only a weakness in his left leg ultimately until his death.
