Parents posssibly Permit LEE b:1717 in Shenadoah, Virginia d: 1825 in Cumberland, Kentucky.
!1820 CENSUS:Cumberland County, KY; FHL Film #186179, p. 153. Lists Permit
as 103 years old in the margin.
!Permit Lee was first found in a tax record in Shenandoah Co. Virginia in the
late 1700's, abt 1785. He has a son, Permit Jr. getting married in Monroe Co,
VA which later became West VA. Next the family is found in Knox Co Tenn in a
tax record of abt 1805. The family then moves to Cumberland Co. Kentucky. with
several son-in-laws, appearing in the 1820 Federal Census. It is there that Permit is
listed as being 103 years old. Several Permit's are found in various states
from Knox Co. Tennessee, Knox Co. Kentucky to Ray Co. Missouri, in the various years
from 1830 through 1860 fed. census. It has been very difficult to determine
which Permit goes with what family and if the marriage found was a second wife
or another Permit. One or two Permit's are even found in Nauvoo, Hancock Co. Illinois in the 1840's, and two different spouses are listed.
The spouse identification continues to be the same problem for all the children
of Permit as well. For example, did the Samuel who married in VA, remarry in
Knox Co. Kentucky or was that two Samuels who were cousins. So the Family
group sheet as it sets is a summary of possibilities.

Paul Campbell Phillips (c.1844-1864)
In addition to Mary Ellen and Franklin Somers, Franklin and Evelena had a third child, Paul Campbell Phillips, who died of fever near Petersburg, Virginia 7 July 1864. The military records for Paul Campbell Phillips sometimes list him, as Paul George or George, a mistake that is understandably propagated in Raiford's excellent book on the 4th North Carolina Calvary Regiment -- but his middle name was Campbell after his maternal grandfather Hugh Campbell. Likewise James Gallanton (Gal) Fullington (died 1888), who was also in the 4th, is misnamed in the records. James Gallanton Fullington married Miranda Campbell. Sir I regret very much to inform you of the death of your son. He departed this life on the 7 of the month. He was confined to his bed 17 days. He had all the attention that any man could get. I visited him in his sickness. He was at a private house by the name of Perkins. Mr. & Mrs Perkins was very kind to him, done all in their power for him. He had Typhoid fever. I tried very hard to send his body home but failed, the Gen would not sign a furlough for any body to carry him. I had him decently buried in a good coffin, I attended to it myself. I marked his grave so if you wanted to get his body so you could find it. He had 50 cts in silver & a few postage stamps in his pocket book. Jarrel Powell has his pocket book. The Yankees visited the house while he was there. They stole his hat & some other things. I sent his horse to you the 14th by Mart & all his clothes. I hope they will arrive safe.
Say to his wife that he died in his right mind & expressed a great desire to see her before his died. He said he was willing to die but preferred to die at home. He died very easy like going to sleep without a struggle. Tell her any thing I can do for her in settling up his claims with (the) goverment or in any other way, I will with the greatest pleasure.
Yours with much respect
Jas. T. Mitchell

Jno' Lawrence " [from Historical Sketches of the Lawrance Fam.]
He purchased a tract of land adjacent to the SE boundry of old Groton township which is now in Littleton from the Nashobah Indians without the town of Groton's approval. He also owned other lands in the neighborhood.
He and his brother, Nathaiel, were among the inhabitants of Groton who sought a temporary refuge in Concord when Groton was destroyed by the Indians in 1676. He served 2 years as selectman, and held some minor offices. He lived on a farm along the great road to Boston, about a mile east of his brother, Nathaniel who lived on the "Mill-Highway", now the road to Ayer, and about 3/4 mile south of the centre of the town and near the "Indain Hills". His name firs appears in the Groton Records in 1669. In 167o he sold to his brother Nathaniel 13 acres of upland lying upon Gibbet hill, formerly the property of his brother, Joseph. From the land records of Groton:
"Lands Layd out to Pelleg Lawance on the west end of Stonny Brook Pond, (1) Seaventy acres be it mor or Lesse Bounded as followth [:] northerly by the Lands of Sergt Knop [also a White line ancestor] and towns comon westerly by the Lands of Jonas Prescot Southerly by ye Ridge of ye hill on the south sid[e] of the Brook that Runes out of Spectackle Pond into Stonny brook pond and easterly by Stonny brook pond. The following are some of the articles mentioned in the inventory of his estate: -- "Wearing cloaths; arms, ammunition and cutlash; Bookes; cart, ploughs, chaine, yoak, siths [scythes], houghs [hoes], spun-yarn, 2 steel traps, one swine." Sum total was L 140 4s. Dated 13 Mar 1693. | Lawrence, Peleg (I5424)
