    Stella DEVIN Williams Collection

Found in a bankers box for the Stella DEVIN [Lalande] Williams & W. P. Williams collection in the Penrose Library Archives at Whitman College in Walla Walla. There was an entire banker's box full of the old portrait photographs with only a few marked as to who they were. Also in the box was a handful of snapshots and few of them were marked. A lot of things belonged to the insurance business owned by Stella's husband and most were his Masonic pictures, articles, etc. Most of the pictures Stella had were unmarked. There were many pictures of her husband who was called Billy. He was a very active member of the Masons. He was an independent insurance agent in Walla Walla and a prominent member of the community.

Bible of Joseph Benton Devin & Elvira PICKEL Devin

Karen V. found a bible in the Stella DEVIN [Lalande] Williams & W. P. Williams collection in the Penrose Library Archives at Whitman College in Walla Walla. The bible appears to be one that Joseph Benton Devin & Elvira PICKEL Devin owned because the birthdates of their children were listed along with their marriage. It also has Joseph's marriage to Belle Wall and the births of their two children.

The bible is approximately 8 1/2 X 11 X 4 or 4 1/2 inches with a metal clasp (now broken) and a velvet or velvet-like front cover. Part of it is in bad shape and shows a lot of wear. The bible has two pages meant for tintype size pictures or slightly larger but none of the slots had anything in them. The pages of the births, deaths were loose (two sheets/four pages) and in a separate box from the actual bible. The archivest reunited the loose sheets with the bible during Karen's visit, so the bible is now in a box apart from all the other "stuff".
