Biographical Narrative:
Nels J. Hansen was born in Denmark. Little is known about his childhood. He
came to the USA in his early teens. He became a carpenter and millwright. He
moved to the Spokane, WA area and worked to construct the first flour mill in
that area. Later he and his family moved to North East Oregon and settled in
the Flora, Wallowa and Lostine area. He operated the post office and store in
Lostine for several years. He died at the home of his daughter, Ethe,l in Salem,
Oregon.
Information received from KLV who received letter from Landsarkivet for Sjaelland M. M., "In reply to your letter of June 6 to Haerens Arkive, we can inform you that Niels Jorgen Hansen was born 22 Oct 1867 in the parish of Bjernede (County of Soro). His mother was Maren Hansen and the putative father was Hans Iversen who lived in the village of Fuldby (parish of Bjernede). He was brought up by his maternal grandfather, Hans Christensen who was a carpenter in the village of Ebberup (parish of Bjernede). He immigrated 25 August 1885 having Lamar in Missouri as his destination. Consequently Hans Peter Nielsen was not the father of Niels Jorgen Hansen. We have found a Hans Peter Nielson who was baptized in the church of Alsted (County of Soro) 13 January 1847. 14 Sept 2004: The Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston WA is not in the best of shape. While the grass and weeds are kept mowed, over time it has been allowed to grow over the stones. Consequently, in some cases it is difficult to determine the names on the stones unless they are upright stones. A man at the Lewis Clark Memorial Cemetery told us that the Vineland Cemetery is in trouble financially.

Narrative History:
Oleta was educated at Flora High School in Flora, Oregon. Along with being a farm wife and young mother, she also taught school. She rode horseback with the three oldest children to teach her students. Her married life was spent working along side Ira dairying, raising a garden, canning fruits and vegetables, cooking, cleaning & all the multitude of chores associated with each. She also did a lot of sewing making clothes & creating quilts that were given to her grandchildren. Because of the hardships of of raising ten children during the 1930's depression, out on homesteaded ground, nothing went to waste in creating gifts for her family & decorations around her home. Died at her Lyle Gulch home of heart failure. She commented she was tired while tending her garden and went in the house to lay down. She passed away in her sleep.

Community College, Ontario, Oregon U.S.A.. He & a friend started the first community
college in the State of Nevada at Elko in 1967-68. Then moved to Longview, WA
to work in Vocational Education. He held a number of professional leadership
posts & became an Adjunct Professor for Central Washington University & Seattle
Pacific University. He also became a licensed pilot holding a commercial
license; a certified instructor for the National Safety Council's Defensive
Driver Training Program; & a state-wide (WA) in-service instructor for
vocational education for the state community college system. He enjoys
fishing, hunting & building projects. He & his family built a vacation home
at Ocean Shores, WA in 1978-82. They enjoy making numerous retreats to Ocean
Shores. In 1989, they hosted a large Devin Family reunion at Ocean Shores.

Clifford W. Ankney passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2016, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.
Clifford W. (Snicker) Ankney was born Jan. 22, 1951, in Lewiston to Jack A. Ankney and Phyllis Devin Ankney. He was raised in the Lapwai area, graduating from Lapwai High School in 1969. He attended Lewiston Normal School and Spokane Community College graduating in 1976. In his youth he participated in football, baseball, pool and drag racing.
Clifford moved to Santa Clara, Calif., where he began a career in electronics. He worked last as a DCS technician for Century Link until poor health forced him to retire.
Clifford married Vanessa Rivers in 1983. They were later divorced.
He enjoyed golf, fishing and watching his Golden State Warriors and San Francisco 49'ers play.
Clifford is survived by his sister Twila (William) Madison; nieces Gina (Steve) Buchanan and Hope (John) Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack Ankney Jr. and nephew Jayson Ankney.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Assembly of God Church, 400 N HWY 95 in Lapwai.
