- Tommy was born in Danville, Va. His mother, Sara Hughey relocated from Greenville, SC, after the death of her husband, Harold, to Danville Va. near her sister and brother-in-law; Burton K. White and Nancy Hughey. Tommy hanged himself at age 18, during his senior year of high school. His brother, Jack, was in Blacksburg, attending Virginia Tech. and drove 2-1/2 hours to his home before he found that his Brother had died, not his Mother.
