      Notes
      • The first record of WIlliam is in Groton in 1665 where he was an original proprietor. At that time he had a 14 acre right. The Greens probably settled in Groton soon after their marriage. Their home lot of 17 acres was located on both sides of the street or "great country road" and included on the west side several house-lots extending as far north as the road leading across Broad Meadow. He was elected fence-viewer in 1674 and Constable in 1675. On 13 Mar 1676 Indians assaulted Groton and burned all the houses but four that were garrisoned. The town was soon abondoned. It was resettled 2 years later in 1678. William was elected a Surveyor in 1680. The first meeting house was burned by the Indians and on 22 Oct 1680 the town voted to refer to a committee of 12 men including William, the dispute regarding the location of a new meeting house. He was a selectman in 1680-1 and on 31 Oct 1682, he bought from Benjamin Crispe, executor of the estate of his son Jonathan, all of Jonathan's land and rights in Groton, including his 8 acre homelot.
He is called a "Malter" in his will.
His will reads, " having already by deed or gift and otherwise settled ye most of my estate upon my beloved wife and children, bequeath the remainder as follows', to my daughter, Hannah Whitcomb, all land and meadow lying near Nashoba, in Groton, moveable estate to my wife Mary and three daughters, Mary Cade, ELizabeth Cade, and Hannah Whitcomb; to the children of son John Gree; and son Eleazer Green to be executor'."
