Lemuel Carter was of an age to choose who his guardian would be, after the death of his Father, Richard. Eldest Son John, already of age, was Lemuel's choice for his guardian. The youngest three became orphans whose guardian was their father's friend, David Powell, and who soon became their step-father. Polly Carter married her new step-brother, Mastin Powell, soon thereafter.

This info says that Mary Carter, d/o Lemuel and Patsy Powell b 1805 is the Mary Carter who married Isaac Satterfield who was the Trustee of the estate of Mastin Powell. Mastin Powell and Patsy Powell who married Lemuel Carter are both the children of David Powell and Mary Eppes....Mary Carter-d/o-Lemuel Carter-father; ISAAC SATTERFIELD WAS THE SON OF THE FOLLOWING SAMUEL SATTERFIELD AND NANCY CARTER; MARY CARTER WAS THE DAUGHTER OF LEMUEL CARTER.

Lemuel Carter and Mary "Polly" Carter are both children of Susannah Bigger and Richard Carter. Undoubetly, Lemuel named his daughter Mary, for his sister who was Mastin Powell's wife. Also, Mary is also the name of Patsy Powell's mother, Mary Eppes who was David Powell's 1st wife. Remember, Susannah Bigger married David Powell after the death of Richard Carter.

      Notes:

These Carters and Powells have been aligned for more than 100 years. -Mary Frances Eggleston
