      Joseph Bressler Funeral Is Held
      Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Nazarene Church for Joseph P.
      Bressler, resident of the Roberts District for the past 60 years. He was born
      November 3, 1870 in Saloma PA.

      In 1914 he donated the property and also helped to organize the Methodist
      Church at Roberts. He was a member of the Methodist Church for 31 years and
      also active in the local camp of Gideons. He owned considerble property
      including a large peach orchard and was esteemed highly by friends and
      neighbors who mourn his passing.

      On April 17, 1889, he was married to Frances Matheny who survives. To this
      union seven children were born, of whom six survive. George A. Bressler, Mrs
      Glenna Lehman, Joseph Calvin Bressler and Mrs Frances Kleen all of Salem and
      Mrs Gladys Harnesberger of Independence. Another son, Elmer died 19 years ago.
      He is also survived by a sister, Mrs Mary Long of Portland, eight
      grand-children and a great-grandchild.

      Funeral notice: Services will be held from the Nazarene church under the
      direction of Clough-Barrick Company, Wednesday, June 2, at 1:30 PM. Interment
      in Cityview Cemetery, Rev. Collar will officiate.

      OBITUARY:
      The funeral of George Bressler was held yesterday afternoon at 2 p. m. at the Leslie Methodist Episcopal church on South Commercial street. Rev. J. C. Spencer officiated. The burial took place in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. Special music was rendered by Miss Carpenter and the Messrs. Carpenter, old friends of the deceased. The floral offerings were numerous and very beautiful. A large number of friends filled the church, paying a tribute to the high esteem in which Mr. Bressler was held in this community.

      In Amenia, Dutchess County, New York, he learned his father's trade of
      wood working, the manufacture of spinning wheels and other wooden articles.
      At the age of eighteen he began teaching school. He taught in dutchess,
      Delaware, and Otsego Counties. He met and married Elmira Roberts in Otsego
      County, New York and there their three older children were born. On
      October 9,1839 the Lewis Hubbell Judson family, his sister Adelia and her
      husband James Olley with forty-five other members of the "Great
      Reenforcement" to the Oregon Methodist Mission, left New York harbor in the
      Barque, Lausanne, for Oregon. They landed at Fort Vancouver on the Columbia
      River in the Oregon Country on the first day of June 1840.

      Judson was known as a versatile, if blunt and stubborn man. Judson and his first wife, Almira Roberts, had four children. Two years after Almira's death, in 1846, he married Nancy Hawkins.
