      In January of 1844, Dr. Leslie married Adalia JUDSON Olley, a widow, and her brother's [Lewis H. Judson] two year old son Robert came to live with the Leslie family. Lewis Judson [son of Robert Judson] says of the boy's next five years, "He was well cared for and received the basis of an education in this fine Christian home. His principla textbook was the Bible. After a few years wit his father, he at his own request was returned to the Leslie's home where e was the nearest to a son that Davis Leslie ever had."       In Amenia, Dutchess County, New York, he learned his father's trade of
      wood working, the manufacture of spinning wheels and other wooden articles.
      At the age of eighteen he began teaching school. He taught in dutchess,
      Delaware, and Otsego Counties. He met and married Elmira Roberts in Otsego
      County, New York and there their three older children were born. On
      October 9,1839 the Lewis Hubbell Judson family, his sister Adelia and her
      husband James Olley with forty-five other members of the "Great
      Reenforcement" to the Oregon Methodist Mission, left New York harbor in the
      Barque, Lausanne, for Oregon. They landed at Fort Vancouver on the Columbia
      River in the Oregon Country on the first day of June 1840.

      Judson was known as a versatile, if blunt and stubborn man. Judson and his first wife, Almira Roberts, had four children. Two years after Almira's death, in 1846, he married Nancy Hawkins.
