      Notes:

There is an entry on the 1900 VA CENSUS Halifax under the family of Claiborne Carter HH/FAM 204/207 for a Richard. The record is nearly illegible but does not look like Son or Daughter for this person and the Birth Date is illegible as well. It is possible that this Richard is Claiborne's FATHER who would be nearly 88 years old. Further research is necessary.

Richard Carter (-1795) married Susanna Bigger in Prince Edward County 29 December (bond) 1772. Susanna, as administratrix, delivered the inventory of Richard?s estate of taken 18 February 1796. Susanna married second David Powell 17 November 1796, and Powell became guardian to her three younger children, Richard, Samuel, and Nancy, by September 1797. A chancery suit of November 1796 identified Richard?s heirs as John Carter, who was then of age, and minors, Thomas, Lemuel, William, Mary, Richard, Samuel, and Nancy

Richard Carter is found on the 1870 Census Halifax VA in the hh 167/168 of his brother William George 'Buck' Carter along with William's wife 'Betsy' 58 and living with them is George T. and alongside is Edward and wife Harriett in their first year of marriage. This is then, Richard Carter, s/o Lemuel and Patsy Powell Carter.

Robert A. Jones was a resident of Halifax County, N.C. The collection includes personal accounts of Jones of Halifax County, N.C.; accounts for his ward; and accounts he kept as treasurer for the county poor wardens, 1820-1822.
Robert A. Jones (fl. 1817-1829) was a cotton planter and large landholder in Halifax County, N.C., where he served as treasurer of the Wardens of the Poor and treasurer of the Roanoke Navigation Company. Jones owned property and slaves elsewhere in North Carolina as well, including Bertie and Wake counties. Plantations he either owned or helped manage included the Grove, Occaneeche, New Hope, and Indian Woods. He appears also to have operated a paper mill outside Raleigh, N.C., and a blacksmith shop in Halifax. Between 1817 and 1826, Jones served as guardian for Willie W. Jones, who was possibly his nephew. Willie was the son of Mrs. Mary Montfort Jones, for whom Robert Jones acted as estate administrator after her death in 1825. In 1823, Jones was also appointed estate administrator for James Johnston (d. 1821), former postmaster of Halifax County, who died intestate.
Two enclosures are one receipt from Richard Carter, dated 27 January 1826, for timber sawed and one undated page of miscellaneous calculations.

      Notes:

This info says that Mary Carter, d/o Lemuel and Patsy Powell b 1805 is the Mary Carter who married Isaac Satterfield who was the Trustee of the estate of Mastin Powell. Mastin Powell and Patsy Powell who married Lemuel Carter are both the children of David Powell and Mary Eppes....Mary Carter-d/o-Lemuel Carter-father; ISAAC SATTERFIELD WAS THE SON OF THE FOLLOWING SAMUEL SATTERFIELD AND NANCY CARTER; MARY CARTER WAS THE DAUGHTER OF LEMUEL CARTER.

Lemuel Carter and Mary "Polly" Carter are both children of Susannah Bigger and Richard Carter. Undoubetly, Lemuel named his daughter Mary, for his sister who was Mastin Powell's wife. Also, Mary is also the name of Patsy Powell's mother, Mary Eppes who was David Powell's 1st wife. Remember, Susannah Bigger married David Powell after the death of Richard Carter.
