      John Harold Jester enlisted in the Army and was discharged honorably after serving 4 years. He was trained as a medical technologist and was stationed in San Francisco, California. He married Donna Jean Bono in the early 1960's and was divorced from her prior to 1965 when he married Mary Frances Reynolds. He planned to go to veterinary school and practice with Harold Tinsley, who was his mentor, but was not accepted to Georgia Tech, which was the only veterinary program who accepted students from Virginia, at that time. He worked as a medical technologist in Danville, Virginia and in Martinsville, Virginia. He lived with his son, Harold Thomas Jester, II until his death in 2010.

For more than 30 years Harold Tinsley employed Sara and became surrogate to her two orphaned sons.

      Sara Rowland Hughey Jester was cremated and her ashes scattered at the family plot at Highland Burial Park, Danville, Virginia. Her private service was conducted by her nephew, Rev. Burton Kirke White, Jr. with family members present.
