IOOF - Mrs. Eva Matheny, age 44 y's 10 m's, died in Yamhill, Oregon, wife of Samuel; 1870 Census - Eva A., age 14, b. Maryland, is enumerated in the home of J. B. McClane, age 50, B. Penn., and Ellen C., age 36 b. N.Y., along with several siblings; Marriage - "Samuel Matheny, over 21 & Eva McClane, over 18, m 11 Nov 1877 at house of John B. McClane; Lewis H. Judson, Deacon. Wit: Robt. T. Judson & John McClane #2099 pg 381".

OBITUARY:
MATHENY
At the family residence, near Gaston, Washington county, Oregon, Wednesday, May 29, 1901, at 9 a. m. Mrs. Eva Matheny, wife of Samuel Matheny, aged 44 years and 10 months.
Deceased was a daughter of Mrs. Helen C. McClane and the late J. B. McClane, of this city, a native of Salem. She leaves a husband, five children, a mother, five brothers, and one sister to mourn her demise. L. B. McClane, of this city, is a brother.
The funeral will be held from the residence of J. H. McCormick, in North Salem, at 2 p.m. today. Interment will be had in the Rural cemetery.

John Burch McClane was born 31 Jan 1820 in Philadelphia PA to John and Mary (SWALLOW) McClane. He came west with Dr. Marcus Whitman, and took up a claim in 1844 near Salem. He served in the Cayuse War as an aide to Gen Gilliam. In 1848 he wintered in California, looking for gold, and returned in 1849. First postmaster at Salem; county treasurer 1851-1852; Indian Agent for Grande Ronde Reservation; 14 children. --History of the Pacific Northwest, page 451-452.

John married Helen Cooper Judson on 09 May 1849. Helen (daughter of Lewis Hubbell Judson and Elmira Roberts) was born on 14 Apr 1834 in Otsego County, New York U.S.A.; died on 02 Oct 1903 in Salem, Marion, Oregon U.S.A.. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

In Amenia, Dutchess County, New York, he learned his father's trade of
wood working, the manufacture of spinning wheels and other wooden articles.
At the age of eighteen he began teaching school. He taught in dutchess,
Delaware, and Otsego Counties. He met and married Elmira Roberts in Otsego
County, New York and there their three older children were born. On
October 9,1839 the Lewis Hubbell Judson family, his sister Adelia and her
husband James Olley with forty-five other members of the "Great
Reenforcement" to the Oregon Methodist Mission, left New York harbor in the
Barque, Lausanne, for Oregon. They landed at Fort Vancouver on the Columbia
River in the Oregon Country on the first day of June 1840.

Judson was known as a versatile, if blunt and stubborn man. Judson and his first wife, Almira Roberts, had four children. Two years after Almira's death, in 1846, he married Nancy Hawkins. Lewis Hubbell Judson died at the home of his son, Leonard,
Sec. 36 T.8 S.R. 4W., W. M. Marion County, Oregon

"Addendum to Chart of the Judson Family" by Richard L. French 1993 has death date of 1878.

Lewis married Elmira Roberts on 13 Aug 1831 in Otego, Ostego, New York U.S.A.. Elmira was born on 22 Jan 1811 in New York, USA; died on 10 Dec 1844. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

Elmira Roberts met and married her husband Lewis Hubbel Judson in Otsego
County. Their three older children were born there. On October 9, 1839
the Lewis Hubbell Judson family left New York harbor in the Barque Lausanne
for Oregon. They landed at Fort Vancouver on the Columbia River in the
Oregon Country on the first day of June 1840.

Notes:

After the American Revolution, Nathaniel Judson, father, settled at
Newton Connecticut. Lewis Judson, following the occupation of his father
established his factory at Amenia Dutchess County, New York.

Lewis married Sally Hubbell on 07 Oct 1804. Sally died on 30 May 1824 in Amenia, Dutchess, New York U.S.A.. [Group Sheet]
