      Divin’s Deed from Biswell

      This Indenture Made this the Twenty Seventh
      Day of November in the year of our Lord Christ one Thousand
      Seven hundred and eighty Seven Between John Biswell
      Senr of the County of Pittsylvania of the one part and
      Robert Divin of Said County of the other part Witnesseth
      that the said Biswell for an in consideration of Two
      Hundred pounds lawfull money taken in hand paid
      and Satisfied by the Said Divin. The receipt whereof him the
      Said Biswell doth hereby acknowledge hath Bargained
      Sold inssossed and Confirmed and by thes presents doth
      Absolutely give grant Bargain Sell inssoss and Confirm unto
      the said Divin one Certain Tract or parcel of Land Lying

      and being in the County aforesaid Containing two hundred and
      thirty acres be the same more or less and Bounded as followeth to
      wit Beginning at a Maple on a Branch in Jenkin’s line
      thence the said line South three Degress East one hundred poles
      to a White oak, thence South [forty] five Degrees East Sixty poles
      to pointers thnce North Eighty seven Degrees East forty eight
      poles to a post Oak thence South thirty two Degrees East
      Twenty seven poles to a post Oak, thence south thirty two
      Degrees East Twenty Seven poles to a post Oak, thence south
      four Degrees East ten poles to a Spanish Oak on Little
      Straberry Creek Thence Down the Creek as it Meanders to a
      Chesnut on sd Creek, thence North seventy two Degrees
      East Ninety three poles to a [Red] Oak, thence North thirty
      Degrees West two hundred [and six] poles Crossing said
      Creek and [one] Branch to a [Red] Oak, thnce North fifty
      seven Degrees West one hundred and eight poles Crossing
      two Branches to a [Red] oak thence South fifty five Degrees
      West one hundred and Twenty poles to a Maple on Said
      Creek, thence South twenty nine Degrees West thirty four
      poles Crossing Said Creek to a poplar in a branch, thence
      up said branch to the Beginning and the Rite of him the
      said John Biswell Senr for himself and his heirs the above
      granted tract of Land unto the said Robert Devin his heirs
      and Assigns will forever Warrant Maintain & Defend from
      the Claim of any person or persons Whatsoever In Witness
      Whereof the said John Biswell Senr hath here unto set his
      hand & seal the year & Date above Written.

      • Recorded 21.April.1788; Deed from John Biswell to Robert Divin for 230 acres in Pittsylvania County adjoining Jenkins on both sides of Little Strawberry creek. Robert Devin paid 200 Pounds on 27.November.1787 for the parcel.
