News: Looking for females who are in the pure female lines (mother to daughter) from William and Sarah who are willing to do an mtDNA test. Such a person would be descended along an all female line from Mary DEVIN Biggers or Margaret DEVIN Reynolds. The hope is to identify the markers for Sarah SMITH Devin to help identify her parents. Contact the webmaster if interested.

Devin descendant, Stanley Wayne Devin, passed away at 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 4, 2014. He was the last living child of Ira & Oleta Devin.

    •  Notes
      • Abstact (Deed 06:063-064)
Deed dated 21.November.1780 from James Devin to John White for a 129 acre tract of land in Pittsylvania County on the branches of the Banister River. Recorded 21.November.1780 and paid 1000 pounds current money. Adjacent to John White and William Devin.

Beginning at a [Red] Oak in John White's line:
        1. N49E 186 poles along William Divin's line to a White Oak
        2. N13E 120 poles crossing a little Creek to a White Oak in the said William Divin's line
        3. S55W 258 poles to a Red Oak
        4. S40E 16 poles to White's corner Red Oak
        5. S30E 100 poles along the same to the beginning

      • Transcribed by David Devin on 12.July.2005 from a copy of Pittsylvania County Virginia Deed Book 06 page 063–064 printed from microfilm at the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah by K. Venable.
      • Trascriber Notes:
This tract was granted to James Devin in Grant Book A page 115 on 20.October.1779. The grant says this tract has 129 acres.

This plat has an error. The plat does not close (undershoots the begining and overruns the first line) and the measured acreage is only 117.2 acres. Line #4 could be South 40 degrees West, which nearly closes the plat (133 feet off instead of 300 feet) and makes the acreage 129.2 acres. I have yet to find a deed or grant for John White's adjacent tract to confirm the adjustment.
