- You get a good indication of what information is in the pension archives for your ancestor, so can you determine if requesting copies of the actual pension records is worth the expense.
If your ancestor is not listed in these volumes, there may still be pension records available at the National Archives. The index is based on the compilier's interpretation of the hand-writing. Be sure to check the index for all spelling variations of the surname.
