Elsie Elizabeth (Aaron) Wells
Elsie, daughter of Bruce and Susie Aaron, was born 9 December 1895 in Pittsylvania County. On 24 December 1913, she married Leslie Stone Wells. Elsie was a homemaker who enjoyed house-painting and always whistled while she worked. She lived most of her adult life in Martinsville. See article “Leslie Stone Wells”.
Bruce James Aaron was born 5 August 1864. On 26 May 1888, he married Susie Clay Marlow born 25 March 1872 to David Andrew Marlow and Nancy Elizabeth Hall. They lived in Callands. Bruce died 4 November 1926. Susie died 3 January 1930. Children: Henry Clay married Ressie Ann Hundley and Charlotte Clauze, Edward James married Claudia Seay, Elsie Elizabeth, Bessie Julia, George Lester married Ellen Crocker and Nancy (Eggleston) Mabe, Mae Frances married Luther Seay, Susie Wilma married Smith Gilliam, Evylene Truman married Claude Inman.
George Washington Aaron was born 2 November 1828. He married Julina Witcher born 12 December 1834 to Caleb and Frances (James) Witcher. Julina died 23 April 1875. In 1877, George married “Fannie” Haley. He died 25 January 1902, Leaksville, NC. George and Julina’s children: John James married Hattie Hicks, George married L.D. Gardner, Martha “Pattie” married J.P. Finney, Daniel Witcher married Amanda, Letcher, Bruce James, Thomas married Aura Lee Shorter, Charles C. married Ida Aron. George and Fannie’s children: Julia F. married Nathaniel Wallace, Mary “Mae”, William J. married Nannie, Fannie Kate married Daniel Perkins Payne, Ezra Wade married Flora.
Henry Clay Arnn was born ca.1799. On 26 November 1825, he married Mary Robertson born ca.1800. Henry died after his father’s will was probated 7 January 1857. Mary was living with her son, Crispin, in Henry County, TN in 1860. All Henry’s family moved to TN except George who lived in VA and NC. Children: George Washington, David married Ann Babb, Edward H. married Letitia McFadden, Crispin married Mary Griffin, Anna married James Parker.
George Washington Arnn was born 1772. He married Sarah Walker born ca.1784 to Elisha and Judith (Kirby) Walker. By 1830, they and most of their children had migrated to Henry Co., TN. Sarah died June 1849. George died 11 July 1855. Children: Henry Clay, George married Frances Donaldson, Charlotte Lewry and Louisa Lankford, Abihu married Margaret Blair, Anadab married Eleanor Alexander, Ann married John Walker, Judith married William Frazier, James Madison married Amanda Bond, Fannie married John I. Crawford, John, Kitt, William.
Abraham Arnn, Sr. was born ca.1734. No legal documents name his wife. Abraham and his children moved from Lancaster, PA to Pittsylvania County ca.1771. On 6 September 1777, Abraham subscribed to the oath of allegiance. During the Revolutionary War, he served on the jury and provided troop supplies. His children’s birth order is unknown. He may have been the father of Moses (married Abigail Payne). Abraham died ca.1815. Children: Jacob married Judith Kearby, Catherine married John Whitsell and Harmon Cook Sr., Abraham married Chloe Pearson, Nellie Purdue and Senea Regan, Mary married Tobias Kingery, George Washington, Isaac married Polly Walker and Elizabeth Fuller, Susannah married Joseph Fuller.
