Martha Sue Green and her sister, Sallie Frances Green both married George T. Carter, my great-grandfather; George T. Carter is f/o Joseph Alpha Carter, Sr., my grandfather; I am Mary Frances Reynolds.
1860 VA Census Halifax, Southern District HH/Fam 837/813 is the HH of William James Gravitt 33, and his wife Lucy A. Woody (GRAVITT). Living with them is Mildred 30 (sister of William) Harriett Woody 23 (future wife of John King Gravitt) and John King Gravitt 21, and Children Sally F. Green 8, and Martha S. Green 5; these two children are daughters of Martha Gravitt and her husband James (Martha is William James Gravitt's brother) Martha S. Green is the mother of my grandfather, Joseph A. Carter.
