He studied for the Anglican Ministry at Cambridge, Massachusetts and also lived at St Peter's Parish in New Kent Co Virginia where he was the church rector for forty years. His first wife was named Elizabeth.
Secondly, he married Mary Claiborne who died in 1737. His third wife was Elizabeth Sloan Marston who died in 1759.

Received the King's Bounty and was sent by the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel to American, Marblehead, Massachusetts.
