I recently happened upon the devintimber.org website and found your wonderful entry on William Bart Reynolds. He my great-grandfather also. My mother was Irene Johnston Truslow (listed on the website as Ilene Ruth Johnston), daughter of John Johnston and Essie Maude Reynolds. It appears that you interviewed my Aunt Arcille and her daughter Carolyn and I was especially interested to see that you used Essie Reynolds' family Bible as a source of family information. My mother always claimed that there was a disagreement between her parents about whether her name was Ilene or Irene and when she wrote to the state of Virginia for a birth certificate as an adult, she was issued paperwork as Ruby Irene Johnston -information she provided in her letter and which she assumed was correct. I've looked at the 1920 and 1930 census records for the Henry and Essie Johnston household and found both Ilene(1920) and Irene(1930) so my mother may have been correct about the difference of opinion in the household. I never thought about there being a Bible still in existence in which the name was recorded. I don't know why my mother wouldn't have checked there herself.
Whatever the case, mom became officially Ruby Irene Johnston until her marriage to my father, William Maynard Truslow in August 1949 after which she was known as Irene Truslow.
Mom died Jan 11, 2005. My father died Jan 8, 1995. I'm an only child and was born in 1953 (not 1935 as listed on the website).
