- There is an entry on the 1900 VA CENSUS Halifax under the family of Claiborne Carter HH/FAM 204/207 for a Richard. The record is nearly illegible but does not look like Son or Daughter for this person and the Birth Date is illegible as well. It is possible that this Richard is Claiborne's FATHER who would be nearly 88 years old. Further research is necessary.

Claiborne appears on every CENSUS between 1860 and 1930 when he is shown as 77 years old; Census Records record his wife, Sallie and children Ella, Pattie, John and Richard; his widowhood by 1900; by 1910 CENSUS he is 57 living with his son John 26, and daughter-in-law Fannie B. 20. By 1930 he is 77, alone and livng next door to Charlie Lipscomb.
