        Carlton Aaron Wells was born 19 December 1919 in Pittsylvania County to Leslie S. and Elsie (Aaron) Wells. In the Army during WWII as a member of an artillery unit with the 29th Division, he served overseas in England and other areas of Europe. The 29th suffered large casualties at Omaha Beach on D-Day. Carlton had served two years participating in battles in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany before being wounded in action in Germany. After the war, he married Gertrude Laney. They lived in the Chesapeake, Virginia area and had sons, Jerry and Dennis. Carlton died 1 July 1999.
