Link to parents proven by Will of his brother, Levi, 1833, cited under his name. Levi left part of his estate to James' youngest son, James Andrew and to James; daughter Susam Martin on the condition that they live with Levi's wife Anna Emmerson (James and Levi had married sisters). However, the children were not adopted by Levi and when Susan married, her father was the one to give his consent. He was surety for his daughter, Martha Ann when she married Allen G. Reynolds.

James Andrew Jackson brought suit against Samuel Jackson, his brother, to force the sale of his land on 18 Oct 1847. The court ordered John Bryant to sell the land and divide the proceeds. (Pitts Order Book 39, page 313). Sanuel C. Jackson countersued, which places him in the county in 1847. John J. Bryant arranged to sell the land but the sale was suspended in Dec 1850 because of the suit. This suit went to Chancery Court when James A. Mitchell objected. (James owed money to Mitchell and wanted to pay him out of the proceeds from the sale of the land). The defendants included William Grant and Sally (Emmerson) his wife and Allen (Gilmer) Reynolds and Martha (Jackson) his wife.
