Obit: On last Friday night between 1 and 2 o'clock a.m., the sad news was phoned to Cheyenne that Alfred G. Gray died at Darlington, Oklahoma very suddenly of rheumatism of the heart. He was superintendent of the Masonic home located at Darlington, and was attending a social given by the boys and girls, inmates of the home, when the Death Angel called and invited him to that fair and happy land of the angles, the everlasting abode of all the boys and girls who have died in the innocency of childhood since the first chils. Alfred G. Gray was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., October 20, 1858. He was educated in Brooklyn, Washington, D.C. and the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. He came west in 1885 and served as bookkeeper for ranches in Texas for a number of years, He made the run to this county, April 19, 1892, located on a claim adjoining the town of Cheyenne. He was the first County Clerk of this county and served in that capacity for ten successive years. He also held the office of Register of Deeds for one term, and his official accord is without a stain. He became a member of Masonic Order in Cheyenne 1898, filled every important office in the lodge from Deacon to Worshipful Master. He had the honor of holding many eminent positions in the masonic lodges. He was a High Priest of the Cheyenne Chapter; Past Eminent Comander of the Elk City Command, Past Grand Patron of the Oklahoma Order of the Eastern Star and Past Grand Master of Grand Lodge of Masons of State of Oklahoma. Gray, The hearse was escorted by about two hundred Masons, and the Eastern Star. Interment in the Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills Co., Oklahoma.
