      • After the Civil War Dr. J. sold his tract of land that he received from his father and attended Richmond Medical College where he received his Degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. He practiced dentistry in Franklin County and was well known for his public speaking. Before becoming a dentist he practiced law, tried the ministry and conducted at a singing school.
      • He was never married and had no issue.

        Doctor J. also fought in the Civil War. He was in Company A, 28th Regiment of Virginia, the division known as "Danville Blues" which saw some of the bloodiest battles. Dr. J. fought at Gettysburg and was wounded twice.
