- Harry is the twin brother of Helen Naomi Hughes and the fifth child of Albert and Alice. He weighed five pounds at birth. Harry graduated valedictorian of a class of 32 students from Bolivar High School in 1928. He, then, attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri and graduated from Southwest Missouri State College in Sprinfield, Missouri, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He atteded Drury College in Springfield, Missouri, where he received a Master's Degree in Education. He taught school in Pleasant Hope and Bolivar, Missouri. He is a member of the First Christian Church of Bolivar, Missouri, where he served as a Deacon, Elder, and as Chairman of the Board.
