Peter Field Jefferson is the first cousin of Thomas Jefferson who was the third president of the United States. Their fathers, Field and Peter Jefferson are the sons of Thomas Jefferson Jr. and his wife Mary Field. Another son, George Jefferson, explored the largely unpopulated area which is now northwestern Pittsylvania County and Franklin County, Virginia.
