The Pedigree Resource file lists that a Josiah Reynolds was born 1 Jan 1758 in Nansemond County, Virginia. He died in 1833 in Smith County, Tennessee. He is listed as the son of John David Reynolds and Mary Martha Gay. John David Reynolds was born 1 Jan 1727/8 in Guilford County, North Carolina, the son of William Reynolds and Mary Brown. William Reynolds was born 5 Jul 1701 at NOTTINGHAM, PENNSYLVANIA. Hence, name and residence patterns indicate that this Reynolds family of Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Virginia, is probably NOT directly related to the Reynolds families of Patrick, Henry, Pittsylvania and Brunswick Counties of Virginia.

Name: Paschal CARTER
in 1830, Paschal had in his household, 1 boy under 5, 1 age 5 - 10, 1 10-15, one girl 10-15 and one 15-20.
Paschal was a staunch Confederate as was his son, John. However, his son Fauntleroy was a Unionist. Paschal disinherited Fauntleroy. The families did not speak to each other for years. Paschal was a member of the Masonic Lodge. The Masons drafted his obituary. In 1872, he gave a deposition in support of his sister, Henrietta Carter SMITHSON's application for widow's pension.
Birth: 3 MAR 1792 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia
Death: 10 JUN 1878 in Bradley County, Tennessee
Note: Although he had been a Methodist, his obituary says he belonged to no religious sect or organization. 1
Burial: Fort Hill Cemetery Cleveland, Tennessee 1
Event: resided BET 1829 AND 1844 Dandridge, Jefferson County, Tennessee
Father: Presley CARTER b: ABT 1767 in Halifax County, Virginia

This Pascal and William are Prime Candidates to be the sons of Presley instant; but is it Mary Ann's Wm.?
(There is no Pascal Carter found in Virginia in the 1840 census - according to Ancestry anyway).
1850 US Census TN Jefferson, District 13,
Household 410: William P. Carter 40 VA Blacksmith, Jane 37 TN, with Andrew, George (deaf and dumb), Catherine, Margaret, Samuel, Sarah and Joseph.
Household 412: William & Jane Hendricks from VA ? Oney Carter 72 VA (no relation given)
There is no Peyton or Pascal Carter anywhere in the 1850 Jefferson Co TN census.
1860 US Census TN Bradley, District 6, Cleveland, Household 67
Paschal Carter 68 Blacksmith VA, Elizabeth 72 VA etc.
See our Capt. George Carter 1733-1810 for extensive proof that he was an uncle of Richard Carter, the Halifax County VA immigrant; we entirely agree with Ms. Fournier that said Richard was a grandson of James of Stafford, where Capt. George is now proven beyond all doubt to be a son of said James. Point is, the first wife of this James was Hannah Neale and it was her family that provided for the generations of names using Daniel, Presley, Spencer and all for grandparents. Although not unique, William was also prominent in this family.
