The follow-through on Stephen's date of birth is convincing - use Don's dates.

I believe the birthdates for the children of Stephen of Henry Co Carter (ca. 1726-1807) (ID No 33520) are in error.
All the birthdates are apparently based on the 1752 date for Abraham which was taken from his 1850 pension application in Yancey Co. NC in which his age was given as 98.
However in the 1850 Yancey Co. NC census we find:
Abraham Carter 84 no occupation b. Va (gives us a 1766 birth date)
Sarah Carter 75 no occupation b. Va (an Abraham Carter m. Sally Bondurant 19 April 1821 in Patrick Co Va. )
The census age could be in error. I have seen a number of cases where an older person mistated their age by 4+ years to a census taker.
It doesn't seem reasonable that Abraham would mistate his age by 14 years in his pension appliction. But it is easy to believe that the person recording Abraham's statement could have misheard or miswrote 98 for 88 giving a 1762 birthdate.
Also, in Abraham's pension application his brother Stephen gives an affidavit that says he (Stephen) was 14 years old when Abraham returned home in Jan/Feb 1781. That gives Stephen a birthdate of abt 1767.
If the children were named in order of birth you would expect Abraham to be abt 4 years older than Stephen.
A birthdate of 1762/1763 for Abraham seems about right to me.

Abraham Carter Sr. was a Rev. War Vet., Battle of Yorktown, wonded and crippled for life. At first, July 10, 1850 in Yancy County, NC, his Pension Application was denied; "rejected for want of service". Later, it was accepted, "

"After much study and consideration, the Daughters of the American Revolution accepted Mrs.
Ruth Carter Burke (Elijah Carter Line) as a member in 1979 on Abraham Carter's service to our country in the Revolutionary War.
It seems that Abraham was robbed of some money by Joseph Ryan on July 31,1792. Nothing noted about the ruling or penalty imposed on Mr. Ryan.

Carter, Abraham
July 6, 1850 Yancey Co., NC Abraham Carter of on Big Ivy in said County,aged 98, declared he entered service when George Washington was preparing for the investment of Yorktown. He sent a request to Buckingham and four other counties to send him a company from each county to consist of the unmarried men, and if they did not turn out of their own will, he would have to compel them. Carter thought he and his comrads were volunteers about August 1, 1781 in a company of infantry commanded by Peter Gearhan or Geeron from Buckingham Co. for six months. He lived near Marysville,VA He was placed under Col. William Anderson at Yorktown. The company marched from Marysville, the courthouse of Buckingham Co., through Cumberland and Chesterfield Counties, crossed James River into Charles City and New Kent Counties, and then to Yorktown. He and his colonel (who acted as a private) were one nite (sic) under the immediate command of Lafayette. In this nite (sic) engagement he received a wound in the left arm but was not entirely disabled for duty. On October 19, 1781 he received another wound in the right thigh, which entirely disabled him from duty. A friend carried him to a place in the camps where he obtained medical aid. He was confined to his bed about 4 months and by the assistance of friends was gotten a private house and remained there until about Feburary 1, 1782 when he became able to make his way home. He arrived at his father's residence in Buckingham Co. on February 14 or16, 1782. He was paid for seven months in continental money and Col. William Anderson sent him a discharge.
July 10, 1850 Yancey County, NC Stephen Carter (Abraham's brother,Stephen Jr.) of said county declares Abraham Carter belonged to Peter Gearhen's Co. of VA. He enlisted for 6 months in August of 1781, but after the battle of Yorktown the company was discharged and came home,being gone about 5 months and 15 days but Carter did not come home unti lthe last of January or first of February.
When he did come he was not able to do any labor owing to wound he received in the thigh. After he received a discharge from Col. Anderson. Abraham has been an invalid allhis life since he was wounded and a great portion of the time was notable to sit up in a chair. Stephen was only 14 years old when Abraham returned from the battle of Yorktown. He was acquainted with the Captain and Colonel under whom he served.
July 10, 1850 Yancey Co., NC William Tellford declares he has been acquainted with Abraham Carter since he was a boy and knows of hisservice from Buckingham Co., VA Abraham volunteered for 6 months. He was a stout young man when he entered the service and came home a cripple. Carter entered service in 1781 and returned home in 1782.
Rejected for want of proof of service.

Abt Aug 1, 1781, states he entered service in Maysville, Buckingham Co VA, from his father Stephen's house. After being wounded and disabled, he arrived back at his father's residence in Buckingham Co on 15 or 16 of Feb 1782.
