      Notes:

I notice that on one of the Carter web pages recommended here the wife of John Carter who died in Henrico Co. in 1785 is named as Elizabeth (Sherwood?) Unknown. However an Albemarle Co. deed dated 12 Nov. 1760 shows that she was the daughter of John Gannaway Sr.:

" Jno. Gannaway, Sr. to Theodorick Carter, son of John Carter of Henrico Co....love for Theodorick Carter, grandson..."

John and Elizabeth's son Jacob named one of his children Elizabeth Gannaway Carter (she was mentioned in John's 1785 will as his granddaughter Betsy Gannaway Carter), and another of Jacob's descendants in Henrico Co. was named John Carter Gannaway Epes.
