NOTE: Hugh Reynolds and his son Joseph are found on this 1777 list. Hugh's son William, is not listed with them; however the record for his service is found in Virginia County Records and is also dated 1777. Joseph's Baptism of 15 Aug 1759 gives us his age. William is also shown on court records in 1788 when he inherits the land of his grandfather, William Neeley. Both Joseph and William are Qualified as Executors (Book 6/170 Pittsylvania Co., Virginia Court Records 1787-91)
Another record dated 22 Mar 1796 for William Reynolds and Charles Lewis must be our William, as the other William Reynolds of Culpepper has died in 1791. No connecton has been documented for William of Culpepper having any connection to the Hugh Reynolds family. -Mary Frances Reynolds

Hugh Reynolds bought land in 1768 from and adjacent to William Nealey. And William Nealey's will dated 6 Dec 1787, leaves his estate to his daughter Mary Reynolds and his two grandsons Joseph & William Reynolds. The will was proved: 21 Jul 1788 and Security: Hugh Reynolds.

15 Sep 1788 WILLIAM REYNOLDS Qualified as Executor of the Will of his grandfather, William Nealey. (Book 6/170 1787-91 Court Orders) Pittsylvania Co., VA (Young William of Hugh)

22 Mar 1796 WILLIAM REYNOLDS, Plaintiff, Lewis Charles, Defendant (Young William of Hugh)
-There are two William Reynolds here; William 'of Culpepper' is the elder and the young man William Reynolds is the grandson of William Nealey and the son of Hugh Reynolds and Mary Nealey.
-William 'of Culpepper' Reynolds died in 1791, so the two entries in this record in 1791 and 1792 may apply (probably do) to the elder William or his son, William. The William of Culpepper family lived on the opposite side of the County; to date, 2013, there is no evidence that the two Reynolds families are related or intermarried.
