James T. Carter's Obit was in Danville Register/Bee Aug
27 ?) 1943 - Headline JAMES T CARTER DIES AT AGE 101.
It mentions that he was born April 3, 1842 but does not give parents names. According to the census etc. he was born
later than that. But after dealing with the census, no age surprises me !!!!! He gave his age as 40 when he married Eliza Hill in 1890 - He was survived by his 8 children -
he had 5 with Carolyn and 3 with Eliza. He was married to
Laura Petty when he died.
I've talked to a fellow in Halifax County and he referred me to
(I forget his name) at the Library of Virginia and neither of those fellows had any information on James T. (1) - he remains an elusive character. In the obit, there was no mention of James T's brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles. cousins Mama or Papa, No one seems to know any
thing about him, except his name on marriage records

Eliza Hill Carter died when Edward Palmer was a toddler and he was raised by his Uncle Joe
