- Allen Gilmer Reynolds married Martha Ann Jackson 24 May 1843. Their oldest son, Levi was born 5 years before their marriage. Levi C. Reynolds is shown on the 1850 Va Census with Allen & Martha. He is 12 years old and his brother, James Samuel is 6 years old. On the 1860 VA census, he appears as Chesley (the writing is ?, still with Allen and Martha; it could be Chester, he names a son Levi Chester). He is also shown on the 1860 Pennsylvania Census as Levi alongside his future wife Margaret Jane Reynolds. They are listed as farm helper and domestic helper in the household of Margaret's Uncle. We find no evidence that Levi served in either the Confederacy or with the Union Army. By 1870 they have their own family in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. Levi is found on a family history compiled by Sandra Bently Reynolds, wife of Harry Lovell Reynolds, Jr., which reports Levi as the son of Allen Gilmer and Martha Ann Jackson. Further investigation of the descendants of Levi and Margaret purports that Margaret Jane and Levi were cousins, although none of their descendants have discovered how they may have been related. I believe Levi is Martha's son that she named for her uncle Levi, in whose household she lived after the death of her mother, Judith Emmerson. Two of Martha's younger siblings are mentioned in the Will of Levi; who left them property provided they remained with his wife Ann (Judith's sister) until her death.

- Sherry Moschler and Michael Reynolds of 1426 Barn Road Callands Virginia submitted the following information to be included in the Heritage Series of Books for Pittsylvania Co., Virginia; this can be seen at the Bassett Historical Society Bassett, Virginia Article # 1095:
" Allen Gilmer Reynolds married Martha Ann Jackson. They lived on Turkeycock Mountain at a place known as "Double Oaks Gap". A foundation on the old homeplace can still be detected there along with large piles of rock - monuments to the backbreaking work involved in clearing the mountain land for farming purposes. Two of their children are buried at Double Oaks Gap. In 1878 they moved off the mountain to the Grady Community.
(Tabitha and Texanna, two of their daughters died, probably of yellow fever during an epidemic just before they returned to Grady; Allen and Martha were parents to eight children, six who reached maturity and produced families of their own.-Mary Frances Eggleston

The names of Allen Gilmer Reynolds and Martha Ann's girls were Tabitha Ann Reynolds born on 22 Sep. 1846 in Callands, VA Turkeycock Mountain. She died before 1878 on the Mt. and is buried there. Her Sister Texanna Reynolds was born on 22 Apr. 1853 in Callands, VA Turkeycock Mountain. She also died before 1878. We know this because Allen and Martha moved off of the Mt. that year. and these two girls are buried there at the old home place. Someone told me what they died of but I can't remember what it was. They were sick at the same time and it was a very contagious disease. I might have it in my notes someplace and if I ever find it I will let you know. There was a third sister. Her name was Mary Permelia Elizabeth (Bett) Reynolds born on 31Jan 1851 on Turkeycock Mt. She died 9 June 1930. She is buried with her husband, Joshua Columbus Manning ( married 15 May 1873 Franklin Co. VA. Joshua is listed living with his father in the 1860 Henry County Virginia census being 7 years old. Joshua died in 1931 , June 27th while living with his daughter Annie in Milton North Carolina. He's buried in the graveyard on John Levy Reynolds's place. His birthday on his stone is 9 Sep. 1851 and death date is 23 Sep 1930. A grandson, of John Levy Reynolds ,Fredrick (Lynn) Reynolds owns that farm now. James Samuel ( born 11, Mar. 1844 died 7 Apr. 1907)is also buried there with his wife Elizabeth M. Reynolds. She was born on March 31, 1853 and died 20 Aug. 1926. They married 15, May 1873. Emma and John Reynolds and a couple of their children and a few other people are buried there. The graveyard has been well taken care of. The Manning' had 8 children and I can send that information if you would like it.
